marco-POLO…

Okay, enjoyed a Polo Match for the 2nd week in a row at King Family Vineyards in VA, USA.  My 1st ever Polo match was last week.  Fellow Photo Club member Chuck joined me last week.  Fellow Photo Club member Early stopped in this week, and we ‘talked shop’ in be-tween the chukkers.

So… the 1st week and 2nd week had two totally different ambiances.  (May have been weather related(?))  The 1st week was perfect weather, bright blue skies, low humidity, nice breeze… today, well, let’s say h-u-m-i-d, 90’s…  haha.  There was more families and play last weekend, kind of how I imagined it from the movies..  (mmmmmkaaaaay).  Today was less camaraderie, less families, not so much activity in be-tween chukkers, (like playing Frisbee on the field, kids playing ball, lots of dogs).  Although a few adorable kids were playing tag and some morphed version of ring around the Rosey, to which I eventually deduced I was said Rosey they were running rings around as i stood snapping away at the field.  HAHA!  Cuties…

So those of you in my FB Photo Club (LKA Shooters) know that i learned after last week’s shoot that I had inadvertently doubled up filters on my main shooting lens which was the 55-300mm..  I had wanted to use my Vivitar polarizing filter, to enhance the skies last week, BUT geek alert: I forgot to remove my standard UV filter first, so I had a double filter thing going on and didn’t even realize it till a few days later.  That said, I knew the pix were subpar.  I could even detect what looked like camera shake, but now realize that was like a double image through double filters.  The images also were quite flat and murky, which i didn’t understand, as well as lacking a nice crisp focus.

Well, so now we straightened things out and for my UK buddy Al, here are the new and improved images, I’m sure you will concur “marked improvement”.  I even felt able to put my name on these.. haha.

Well all, enjoy.  I’m sure some of you want to see the ones form last weekend to see said improvements, so I may make another post for those pix.

My Photo Club!

I started a local (Lake Anna, VA) photo club on Meetup.com. Then I added a FB Group  as well to mirror the Meetup.com group.  Its been tuff working both angles and keeping people engaged.  Ive hosted several successful workshops right in my studio, and also held a few on line.

The club’s focus is Artistry through Teach & Learn.   We’re called LKA Shooters.  LKA is a local acronym for Lake Anna.  There are other groups around, in Richmond and Charlottesville, even Fredericksburg, but when i had been looking for interaction, those groups did not have any kind of workshops, so after 3-4 months it finally hit me to start my own meetup, and host workshops… go figure, shortly after, i saw those groups begin hosting some workshops…

Anyway, the 2 LKA Shooters groups are still alive, the FB group has been having more mobile device challenges on line, and the Meetup.com one was going to cancel, but I think ill just pay the $90 and let it survive another 6 months.

I am re-focusing it a bit to be more Pet Rescue fundraising centric.

Check the groups out and join, join, join!  Lol…

cheers

Art Show / Event!

September 7-8, 2018. (Friday & Saturday)

My very first Art Show type event will be at the 208 Sale Trail 2018!  I will have a booth in downtown Spotsylvania, VA. on Main street at the Christ Church Thrift Shoppe. It will be mainly focused on Art and Pet Rescue Fundraising.  I’m hoping my photography club LKA Shooters Photo Club (on FB) will join the effort to help take pictures of Pets that day in exchange for donations for pet rescue groups and organizations.  I plan to have a complete ChromaKey mini-studio setup, laptop, and printer to make FUN! Prints for pet owners right on the spot.

I will also be selling prints of my local photography. Hopefully the club members will as well!

More to come on this exciting event!

Latest 3 Art Pieces for Fundraising!

More fundraising art pieces.  The Beagle was commissioned, the other two are more samples and will be for sale with 50% of sales going to Pet Rescue organizations and groups!  Although Ted and Pip (the 16×20 canvas) may make its way across the pond, either in canvas form or another print form!

cheers!

Ted & Pip & Bluebells!

I had the honour of meeting Ted & Pip in person, in Kent, United Kingdom in April 2017.  Lovely pooches. ❤️  While on holiday in Paris, I railed across the channel to meet 3 of the dearest biker brothers from my Fury Forum: Invicta, Huskamute1 & Wigoh. During my stay the Bluebells were in full bloom, and how beautiful they were, indeed.  Allan mentioned they are usually out only briefly each year, so my timing was brilliant.

Anyway, this is a photo Al took a few years ago of his dogs, and when I started these fundraising paintings, I knew I wanted to paint this for my sample collection.

well, Al, here ya go comrade… my interpretation of Ted & Pip.  Enjoy!

Commissioned Painting

Meet “Tater”.  A Beagle mix, he is!  With that goofy face, Tater loves fishing, and napping.  Watching him nap, you’d think this guy has no bones, with the positions he flops into. 😂🤣

So, I truly hope “Bill & Mama” enjoy this interpretive painting I did from a photo he sent me.  I painted it on a wooden plaque, since they are a very rural family that lives near Roanoke, VA.

Okay, 4 more are completed.  I need to get more frames to upcycle…. again, these are copyright by me, JJ Kelley… please consider purchase instead of free downloads, as my intent is to raise funds for pet rescue efforts…  THANK YOU!

I have 5 more in various stages of completion. 1 is a commissioned work for a friend… I am doing his on a wood plaque.  Then I have 5 more prepped blanks.  One of my favourite Brits called me prolofic painter.. haha, but I do work well with a bunch of canvases “on the easel”… likened to a Chess Master who plays simultaneous games with students….. the similarity being dry times in between layers drying… lol.

cheers, and thank you for your support!
